What is the Kenalog injection?
The Kenalog injection is great for hay fever suffers. This steroid injection contains 40mg of the steroid Triamcinolone. This is injected directly into the buttock muscle with mild discomfort and then slowly diffuses into the bloodstream in small dose over 3 to 4 weeks. Patients usually only require one injection for the hay fever season.
What are the side-effects of the Kenalog injection?
There are a few side effects to the Kenalog injection. The most common side effects are headaches, dizziness, changes in skin as well as stomach pains and bloating.
Less common side effect would include increased blood sugar, increased blood pressure, thromboembolism, anxiety, weight gain, changes in menstrual periods and excessive sweating.
Side-effects can last up to 5 days.
Am I suitable to have the Kenalog injection?
Majority of people are suitable to have the Kenalog injection. A full consultation and medical history will be check with the medical practitioner before the treatment. The following would not be suitable for the Kenalog injection.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Immune impaired system
- Undergoing cancer treatment
- Allergy to any of the ingredients
- Have an illness or infection
- On oral steroid treatment
- Taking any medication that could affect your immune status
